The Catlins

The Catlins were definitely the highlight of the trip so far, the area is spectacular. The view from Nugget Point lighthouse was incredible and the place so quiet and serene. We stayed the night near Porpoise Bay and saw dolphins just playing in the surf, we even spotted more rare yellow eyed penguins.

The next day we headed to Slope Point the southern most point in New Zealand. We were really lucky as we were the only people there looking out to the south Pacific ocean. As with all these beautiful places we’ve seen there is always one downside, in this case it was the sand flies – a reminder of Alice Springs all over again.
